ICUP 2016

1st International Conference on Urban Planning - ICUP2016

On behalf of the Organizing and Scientific Program Committee, we are pleased to invite you to participate in the 1st International Conference on Urban Planning - ICUP2016, to be held on 18th and 19th November 2016 in Niš, Serbia.

Conference will be organized by the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Architecture of the University of Niš and Urban Planning Cluster.

The aim of the conference is to bring together scholars, researchers and students from all areas of Urban Planning.


Topics of interest


Topics of interest for ICUP2016 include, but are not limited to:

  • - Urban theory and practice
  • - Development and planning problems
  • - Links between planning, building and land
  • - Urban regeneration
  • - Land readjustment
  • - Interaction between the natural environment and urban areas

The official language of the Conference is English. All submitted papers will be double blind peer reviewed. The scientific committee of 1st ICUP2016 is composed of internationally recognized academicians practicing in Europe, Asia and USA.

Original research papers peer-reviewed and accepted by Scientific Program Committee will be published in the ISSN numbered Conference Proceedings.

One person can submit 3 papers max.

Lecturers


Dr Ali A. Alraouf, Qatar

Prof. Alraouf is an architect and urban planner interested in research and practice related to architectural, urban, sustainable design and holistic planning. He was a Visiting Scholar at University of California at Berkeley-USA. He is currently acts as head of Capacity Building, training, research and development unit at Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME). He is also the leader of Green Urbanism and Planning Group at Qatar Green Building Council.


Dr Zorica Nedović-Budić, Ireland

Dr Zorica Nedović-Budić is Professor Chair of spatial planning in the School of Architecture, Planning and Environmental Policy at University College Dublin, Ireland. Her research is about planning, cities and technology. She is the principal investigator on a 30-partner FP7 project Transitioning Towards Urban Resilience and Sustainability (TURaS http://www.turas-cities.org). She has published extensively in books and refereed journals, co-edited three volumes and served on editorial boards of several journals. She is currently a member of the Executive Committee of the European Association of Schools of Planning (AESOP).


Dr Alessandro Busa, Germany

A critical urban scholar with a cross-disciplinary background and a passion for thought-provoking research, Alessandro Busà has published extensively on the social, cultural and economic impact of urban development in New York City's most iconic neighbourhoods. Busà has carried out research in New York City at the Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation (GSAPP) of Columbia University, and holds a Ph.D. from the Center for Metropolitan Studies at the Technical University of Berlin.


Dr Hossam Samir Ibrahim, Qatar

Dr Hossam is an urban and environmental planning expert with a broad-based, multi-disciplinary technical background. Dr Hossam has more than 19 years of extensive experience and leadership in working with municipal government and consultation firms in Regional and Urban planning projects in Egypt, UK, Qatar, and Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Dr Hossam published more than 20 journal refereed papers, critical reviews, in addition to books and book chapters.


Dr Francesco Rotondo, Italy

Prof. Dr Francesco Rotondo, civil engineer, urban planner, PhD, Associate professor of Urban planning and design at the Polytechnic University of Bari (Italy). He is the author of 4 books and more than 100 publications in the urban planning discipline. Member of some European Research groups. He is the author of 5 cities master plans and many urban design projects. His research interests are focused on ICT and GIS support for urban planning and design and urban regeneration.


Dr Cristian Suau, United Kingdom

Cristian is funding director of STUDIO POP (Scotland). He worked as urban project leader in OMA, Rotterdam (2006-07). He has been postdoctoral research fellows in NTNU (Norway), Chalmers University (Sweden) and ETSAB (Catalonia), as doctorate programme lead (2004-06). He was senior lecturer and director of the Glasgow Project Office (GPO) at Strathclyde University (Glasgow, 2013-16) and lecturer at the Welsh School of Architecture (Wales, 2007-13). His main projects are MOBILELAND (Glasgow); Vertical Studios (Cardiff), the ART BOX (Tianjin), LFA Nomadic Allotments (London) and FP7 EMUVE scientific coordinator.


Dr Demetrio Muñoz Gielen, Netherlands

From 2007 onwards Demetrio advises public and private parties about public-private partnerships in urban development, and since 2009 he became also part-time public officer at the Municipality of Purmerend, in the Netherlands, where he improves the financing of public infrastructure and facilities. Demetrio is also university lecturer, first at the Amsterdam School of Real Estate, and since 2010 both at the Radboud University of Nijmegen and at the University of Amsterdam.


Dr Kosta Mathéy, Germany

Prof. Dr. Kosta Mathéy is a German expert in urban development planning, housing and urban violence prevention in developing regions. He worked as an architect in Britain, is currently lecturing in different Universities in Germany, Cuba, Algeria and Egypt and worked as a consultant for UNHABITAT, ILO, the EU, DFID, GIZ and KfW in Asia. Africa and Latin America. He is founder and co-editor of the Journal TRIALOG on planning and building in the global South, published 16 books, 32 chapters in edited books and 43 original journal articles.


Dr Derya Oktay, Turkey

Prof. Dr. Derya Oktay (Architect & Urban Designer) is currently the Dean of the Faculty of Architecture at Ondokuz Mayıs University, Samsun, Turkey. Prior to her current position, she was the Director of the MS in Urban Design Programme and the Founding Director of the Urban Research & Development Center at Eastern Mediterranean University, North Cyprus. She was a Visiting Scholar at UC Berkeley, Politecnico di Milano, University of Michigan and Oxford Brookes University, a team member in various urban/architectural design projects, and a jury member in various design competitions. She has carried out research on sustainable urbanism and quality of urban life funded by the EU, EC, USAID and TUBITAK, and published extensively. She is on the editorial board of a number of prestigious journals, and the editor of the two special issues of ICE Urban Design and Planning.


Dr Teo Keang Sood, Singapore

Professor Teo is a Professor of Law in the Faculty of Law at the National University of Singapore. Educated in Malaysia and Harvard Law School, he teaches and researches on contract and property law.

Conference Fee Payment


The Conference fee is RSD 6,000.00 per paper for participants from Serbia, or EUR 50.00 for participants from abroad. VAT is included in the Conference fee.

The Conference fee includes admission to the Conference sessions, Conference Proceedings, promotional material and cocktail during the Conference.

Accommodation, travel expenses, gala dinner and excursions are not included in the conference fee.

Authors who has received the proof of the paper acceptance will receive the invoice for the Conference fee by email.
